[monitoring] Serialize Metrics

Is it possible to make the implementations of Metrics serializable? We
have an app that has about 50 different processes running on different
machines. We would like to have a centralized component that will
analyze and aggregate the stats from all these processes. It will be
helpful if we can send serializable Metrics. I would imagine it could be
a useful feature for other applications as well.
