This problem only occurs when an action bar is included in the layout AND the action bar is not transitioned with the content.
"By default, the ActionBar is not included in the transition from one view to another. Instead, the ActionBar control uses a slide transition when the view changes, regardless of the specified transition. To include the ActionBar in the transition when the view changes, set the transitionControlsWithContent property of the transition class to true." By default the action bar has a separate transition from the content in a view.
