   Hi @chiacyu @showuon 
   can you please explain how this fix prevents the NPE, since at this point:
   https://github.com/apache/kafka/blob/trunk/storage/src/main/java/org/apache/kafka/server/log/remote/storage/RemoteLogManager.java#L998
   the Optional is again converted to null. The an NPE happens a bit latter:
