The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) is proud to announce that the first
ever Asian edition of ApacheCon will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from
August 15th to 17th, 2006.

This event creates a unique platform for the Open Source community to
come together to gain deep insight into techniques and methodologies
critical to the advancement of Open Source software, and gain skills to
optimize the power and versatility of Apache software. The first ever
Asian edition of this popular conference is specially designed to be
accessible and affordable for the Asian developer community.

The conference brings together ASF members, developers and contributors,
business people, and power users, across the world working with Apache
and related software, to participate in a leading-edge forum to exchange
ideas and network with peers.

The conference includes one day of intensive half-day tutorials, which
will offer actionable techniques and methodologies pivotal to the
increasing demand for Open Source software.

The main conference spans over two days offering a wide range of
beginner, intermediate and advanced sessions in a two track format. The
program consists of four world-renowned keynotes, sixteen technical
sessions, panels and BOF sessions. In addition, there is a designated
"hackthon" day allowing developers the opportunity to meet and hack on
various Apache projects. Finally, a full day of tutorials, consisting of
six half-day sessions gives attendees a chance to learn the nitty gritty
of various technologies from the experts themselves.

Come share your knowledge, hit upon new ideas, find solutions and
connect with your peers at this educational, fun-filled gathering of
users, developers, and vendors of Apache software.

The ASF and the conference organizer for the ApacheCon Asia conference,
the Sri Lankan Free and Open Source Software Community, invite the Open
Source community to submit session and tutorial proposals for ApacheCon
Asia 2006.

The program committee is particularly interested in session and tutorial
proposals on the following topics:

       * Apache HTTP server topics (installation, configuration,
         migration, ...)
       * All ASF projects such as Tomcat, Jakarta, mod_perl, XML,
         Web services, SpamAssassin and DB
       * Scripting languages and dynamic content
(such as Java, Perl, Python, Ruby, XML, XSL, and PHP)
       * Security and e-commerce
       * Performance tuning, load balancing and high availability
       * Technical and non-technical case studies
       * New technologies

Regular sessions will be 60 minutes long and tutorials will be 3 hours
long.

Speaker benefits include:
       * Travel costs will be covered up to $350.00 for South and South
East Asia and up to $750.00 for other international travelers.
       * Accommodation will be covered depending on the number of
         sessions
       * Tutorial speakers will be paid an extra fee for their efforts
         based on enrollment
       * Conference registration fees will be waived

To submit a proposal, visit http://www.asia.apachecon.com/submit. The
deadline for submissions is July 9th, 2006.

you could put in for more than one proposal

+ant1.7
+how to release an apache project

if you get in as a speaker, some travel/hotel will be funded.

there will be lots of apache people there for co-signing. Certainly much
of the Axis2 team will be present, they being based in Sri Lanka.

Funnily enough, my new company is semi-interested in sponsoring my
attendance as a speaker. So I'll be submitting a proposal about ant
- any thoughts on what would make a good speech (building a release
for an apache project perhaps ;) ?

Also if anyone else can make it, then I can get my pgp key signed (yay!)
