When running WSDL2Java to create a service (actual command line switches: -o dir\subdir -ss -sd -uri wsdlfile.wsdl) it created a WSDL with a linebreak like this: l\nocation in the <service> defintion, according to Anne Thomas Mannes.

I can't tell you, in my editor it looks fine. Anne Thomas Mannes suggested that it was between l and ocation in the <service> def. Maybe she used an editor that couldn't handle very long lines :)

Anyway, it might be a good idea to pretty-print the WSDLs so they become more readable by both editors and humans
