I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "diffs taken care of"?

There are multiple LICENSE files throughout the tree to allow for the fact
that every artifact we produce must have an individually-tailored LICENSE
file. At least, this is how I understood it.

Perhaps you could review my interpretation to see if I have understood
Apache Legal correctly?
https://github.com/apache/incubator-brooklyn/blob/master/docs/guide/dev/code/licensing.md#about-license-and-notice-files

Regarding the test artifacts, we do publish our test code as Maven
artifacts. However in the specific case of usage/cli and jsgui the files
were unchanged from the base Apache versions; possibly therefore could be
omitted (and Maven magic should install the boilerplate files).

Richard.

+1 (binding)

Excellent work on the release Richard.

* tested the binaries on Linux, they work fine, although not my focus;
the ASF releases code as source, so I focused more on the source distro
* downloading, building from source works fine, all tests pass
* started the webui (binary and source distro), it works, looks great
found no issues
* licensing looks ok, although it requires more work which I would
strongly suggest to be fixed for the next release
  i. there should be not license (LICENSE, NOTICE, DISCLAIMER) in test
directories, I already submitted a PR for that
ii. LICENSE files should be consolidated into one place (./LICENSE)
and diffs taken care of (e.g. list of jars from
./usage/dist/src/main/license/LICENSE is lost everywhere else)
iii. Due to the dependency on bouncycastle, I suspect that a statement
re: cryptography [1] may be necessary. I can look into it if that's ok
with you.
* renaming of packages from brooklyn.* to org.apache.brooklyn.* will be
required for graduation, I strongly encourage that step to be taken care
of in the next release.
* the brooklyn-install.sh gave me a ton of grief, I had to tail the log
to figure out what's going on, had to punch in a password a zillion
times; I ended up setting NOPASSWD:ALL in my sudoers to somewhat
alleviate the annoyance.

Thanks,
Hadrian

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Brooklyn 0.7.0-incubating [rc1]

Posted by Ciprian Ciubotariu <ch...@gmx.net>.
I have downloaded and briefly used the release and came upon the following
(minor) problems:

1. I have tried to use the brooklyn-install.sh file in the root directory to
install a brooklyn instance remotely, and run into a sum of errors (details
below). Is the script still supported? Or should it be removed along with the
instructions for use (install-on-server.md)?

2. Running mvn clean install works fine, but running mvn test standalone fails.

3. Running integration tests as instructed at
https://brooklyn.incubator.apache.org/v/latest/dev/code/tests.html contains
failures:

Tests run: 1221, Failures: 10, Errors: 0, Skipped: 11

4. I am unsure which version should I assign the problems on apache brooklyn
jira, since the version list contains 0.7.0, 0.7.0-M1, 0.7.0-M2 and 0.7.0-
SNAPSHOT. 0.8.0 (master) is also missing.

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/BROOKLYN/?selectedTab=com.atlassian.jira.jira-projects-plugin:versions-panel

I think it would be useful to discuss the version semantics and implement them
accordingly on the issue tracker, along with instructions in the developer
docs.

Other than that, the release works fine: brooklyn starts up as described in the
getting started docs and I was able to start all examples on my test VMs.

I vote +1 (non-binding).

+1

Tests made:
1. All artefacts are downloadable. All hashes match and signatures pass.
2. Source artefact compiles and unit tests pass.
3. The out-of-the-box template apps (i.e. from the "add application" ->
catalog), and the getting started guide.
  - "Template 1: Server" to AWS and GCE
  - "Template 2: Bash Web Server" to AWS and GCE
  - "Template 3: Bash Web Server and Scaling Riak Cluster" to GCE < it
works but the firewall management makes the deployment super-slow and
exposes it to the risk of failure as it creates too many firewall rules and
routes that easily fill the quotas

I've also created a simple `verify_brooklyn-release.sh` to automatically do
step 1 and 2 (find it attached)
If useful we can push it to the repo

Hi all,

Tentative +1 (binding) from me just now.

I've tested the out-of-the-box template apps (i.e. from the "add
application" -> catalog), and the getting started guide.

  * "Template 1: Server" to AWS
  * "Template 2: Bash Web Server" to localhost
  * "Template 3: Bash Web Server and Scaling Riak Cluster" to AWS
  * "Template 4: Resilient load-balanced bash web cluster with sensors"
    to localhost
  * The getting started blueprint to localhost [1]; but note that new
docs need pushed to the live site [2]

However, the hotel wifi is not good enough to do the AWS deployment
tests! *Can someone else please give those a go (e.g. to AWS and to GCE)?*

All looks good so far, but I would like to have those confirmed as working.

*Another doc fix (which therefore doesn't affect the release) ***we need
*is to [3].* This page starts with "The Demo Web Cluster with DB
application is pre-configured with two polices." However, it doesn't say
where to get that app from. The app in previous doc page ("deploying
blueprints") did not have these policies.

Tests made:
* All artefacts are downloadable. All hashes match and signatures pass.
* Source artefact compiles and unit tests pass.
* Archetype generates a project.
* Server runs and deploys archetype-generated project.

Thanks for your work, Richard.

Sam

My own vote:

+1 binding

Tests made
- All artifacts downloadable, hashes match and signatures pass
- Source artifact matches the git tag, except for known exclusions (binary
files and Git metadata files)
- Binary build - deploy a blueprint to a cloud location
- Maven artifacts - build a downstream project that depends on Brooklyn
using the staging repository and test

Richard.
