SOAP Encoding

Perhaps this question belongs on the SOAP list, but I am in need of a mechanism
that will convert an instantiated Java object into an XML document. I would
imagine that such a mechanism is central to SOAP in order to pass objects
around, but I thought I would ask the XML guys if such a thing exists.

At the present time, I have no need for RPC therefore SOAP is *way* too heavy
for what I am trying to do.
