CMS Redesign for better usability

Hi all,

Going through the pages I believe it will increase usability the removal of
the yellow banner, which takes 1/3 of the screen for no obvious reason.

I'm attaching a design screenshot to understand the difference ( the message
has been moved in the white space near the search form) .

Please vote and let me know if I should include it in the update I'm working
on.

Regards

Sotiris

Hi Ted, Isabel and all,
I had a look at trunk » templates » standard.html and put a new Twitter
widget. I've attached a patch with this mail. Please check it and let me
know whether the widget is functioning. (Unfortunately I could not find a
way to stage and verify the changes before sending this patch as I logged
in anonymously. I tried the embedded code on my blog and it's working as
expected).
If the patch is working, I will remove the old code and send a cleaner
patch :)

Regards,

Sotiris,

It appears that the link to the Mahout twitter handle has been lost in
recent changes. Would be nice to repair that.

Awesome. Thanks. If you run into any issues or questions please to post on this list - we switched only recently so this might also be a good learning for others.

With so many +1s - can you checkout the code for the CMS page and
change the template that holds the banner?

https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/mahout/site/mahout_cms/trunk/ is where
the content of the CMS based page are stored. The banner is part of the
template under templates/standard.html

To test your changes you might want to go through multiple local build
cycles. For more info on how to do that see there

http://www.apache.org/dev/cmsref.html#faq-build-tools

Would be great to see this change as a patch in JIRA.

Attachments are stripped by the mailing list software.

Can you post your thumbnails somewhere (pastebin, dropbox, anywhere)?
