How have you got jetspeed installed?
Is it on the root context - ie if you specify no directory in your
url, does it loads jetspeed?
Is it in the webapps directory of tomcat?
Sounds like it is neither of these, given your problems, assuming you
have installed it in a context of /foo, then the action should just
be /foo.
Alternatively, maybe there is a typo in your generated code - have
you looked at the source of your generated webpage - does it look
good?
Have you tried entering the action url directly - that should help
identify if the problem is the generated html or the web server
config.

That should be $TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/jetspeed/WEB-INF/classes/....

Just wanted to post back to the list. Figured out my problem. In the
process I went and grabbed the CVS version 1.3a2. Actually I much
prefer it to the 1.3a1.
For my form action it needed to be action=/jetspeed/portlet/myclass
that works like a charm.
Thanks to those who responded to my questions.
BTW, Mike's response to adding WEB-INF is absolutely correct. My path
was $TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/jetspeed/WEB-INF/ ...

If you include a JSP output or servlet in the current CVS with default

Hello,
I use only vm, I removed jsp directory.
After I launch tomcat, I obtain in my netsacpe what contains the
anon/default.psml file, so, it's ok.
(I put in this the Search, Rss files and a jsp).
But if I reload, (click on reload of jetspeed or on link "Home" of
jetspeed) I obtain only my jsp
and I obtain also an error in jetspeed.log (in attachment ...).
Have you got ideas?
Thanks.

Velocity as such is just a template engine, but coupled with
Turbine you can achieve strict (or nearly strict) MVC behavior.

Yah, right. there is a discussion of velocity with
jsp..
I am agree Velocity is full MVC, correct me if I am
wrong..
Last Night, I change all the vm to JSP, but I got
difficulty with the reference.. I am collecting the
syntax, I will post if finish, may be some one can
update it..
Sorry if some one every wrote this..
I got experience of developing JSP in Jetspeed. This
is last night experience...
If i changed the default.jsp, all the script will be
recompile.., but if I change the jetspeed.jsp etc..
that big problem.. this is the weakness of JSP..
This won't happen if using Velocity..
But, I see there is a strange url.. several of the
object still call the Velocity object.
Oke that's my experience..
I will update you if I find something news in Jetspeed
1.3a2..
NB: I used yesterday CVS...

Frans

Jetspeed can use 2 different template engine technologies: JSP or Velocity
(.vm) files.
You can also mix them, although there's a known issue right now with
Turbine/Velocity and included servlet outputs.
The default template engine used for rendering the pages is selected in
TurbineResources.properties file (specifying whether your default extension
is jsp or vm).
In Jetspeed 1.3a1 the default engine is JSP, in the current CVS is using Velocity
as default.
I implemented most of the new customization options in Velocity right now but they
may be easily back-ported to JSP by any volunteer.. (hint...)
The JSP vs Velocity debate has been raging for a long time on the Turbine, Struts
and Velocity lists and you can find some arguments on the Turbine web site.
I personally prefer Velocity and as soon as the servlet inclusion issue is solved
I think Velocity is a good default solution for the next release.
There are two issues to be solved for this to happen, one is the patch I proposed
for inclusion to Martin for the upcoming Turbine 2.2 ; the other is a modification
in the Velocity engine proper.
> And what is the vm (~HTML) ? Where can I found the values of variables $link

Go a check what is Velcoity on the Velocity site:
http://jakarta.apache.org/velocity/
and check some default Turbine context objects on the Turbine site:
http://jakarta.apache.org/turbine/

Yeah.. but I try to create a jsp way not a vm way..
Just add an extension there..
Can anyone explain how to learn the $data. class..
What is that???
I see the object is handling login, session, and
layout. including generate layout...
Still big question for me..

Why did you not remove the jsp directory (when I speak about this directory, I
speak in fact always about "jetspeed/WEB-INF/templates/jsp".
And what is the vm (~HTML) ? Where can I found the values of variables $link

Hello,
I try to change the look of my portlet,
I modify so files in "jetspeed/WEB-INF/templates/jsp/layouts/html/*"
and "jetspeed/WEB-INF/templates/jsp/navigation/html/*" .
At the beginning it was ok but now I find back the oldest look of jetspeed.
I think it becomes from "jetspeed/WEB-INF/templates/vm/*".
Should I modify this too ?
Why the jsp isn't sufficient?
What is exactly vm ? (What does it mean, virtual machine?)
So, could I have more details about please.

I don't think that would be the problem - as below you say you can
see the generated html web page - which is generated by this class -
is it not?
I am assuming that you can access jetspeed normally and that your
portlet showing the initial pass through the JobSubmit class appears
in it.
This url that you use to access it normally, is valid to use as an
action url.

I have jetspeed installed with standalone tomcat 3.2.2. (i.e. not
configured
with mod_jk and apache) The server is a Sun box running solaris 2.7.

I have it installed in the webapps directory
$TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/jetspeed.
I just took the default installation and put jetspeed.war in webapps.
One thought that may be causing me problems is there was not a
$TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/jetspeed/classes directory so I created one and
put JobSubmit.class in that location. Might that be my problem? Would
I be better off making this into a jar and putting it in jetspeed/lib?
I'll give that a try.
