A Datanode's datadir could have lots of blocks in the top-level directory
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: HADOOP-4990
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-4990
             Project: Hadoop Core
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: dfs
    Affects Versions: 0.18.0
            Reporter: dhruba borthakur

When a datanode restarts, it moves all the blocks from the datadir's tmp directory into the top-level of the datadir. It does not move these blocks into subdirectories of the datadir.

I think this should be fixed sooner than later. Which branch it goes in would depend on HADOOP-4663
