DO NOT REPLY [Bug 50079] New: Jmeter does not record the file path
https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=50079
Summary: Jmeter does not record the file path
Product: JMeter
Version: 2.4
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows XP
Status: NEW
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: HTTP
AssignedTo: notifications@jakarta.apache.org
ReportedBy: prashath@providenceglobal.com
When a file upload session is recorded using jmeter, Send files with HTTP
request does not record the complete path of the selected file, this only saves
the file name. Because of this during the recording user is not being able to
access the requested page beyond the click event (selecting upload button).
The user is displayed with the following java exception.
java.io.FileNotFoundException: IMG_2008.jpg (The system cannot find the file
specified)
at java.io.FileInputStream.open(Native Method)
at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source)

Unfortunately there is nothing JMeter can do about this.
Some browsers don't pass the full path name when uploading files, they only
provide the file name.
This works when recording because the browser provides the content.
But during playback, JMeter cannot find the file because it only has the file
name.

Bugzilla is not a support forum.
Please subscribe to the JMeter user mailing list and ask there.

The case I wanted to simulate:
1)An user logs in to a web portal
2)Uploads an image using a form in the web
3)By viewing the list of uploads the users deletes a previously uploaded file.
4)Then logs out of the portal
Hope Firefox is not under the "Some browsers list".
Reproducing steps:
1)Add a thread group
2)Add a proxy server Strat proxy
3)Open Firefox login to a web portal where there is an option to upload and
delete files. (proxy settings should be similar server settings)
4)Select the file on your PC, from the file up loader in the web portal.
5)Select the upload link/button.
Actual results:
After Step5 the user is being displayed with the following error message in the
web browser screen;
java.io.FileNotFoundException: IMG_2008.jpg (The system cannot find the file
specified)
at java.io.FileInputStream.open(Native Method)
at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source)
at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source)
at
org.apache.jmeter.protocol.http.sampler.PostWriter.writeFileToStream(PostWriter.java:406)
at
org.apache.jmeter.protocol.http.sampler.PostWriter.sendPostData(PostWriter.java:115)
at
org.apache.jmeter.protocol.http.sampler.HTTPSampler.sendPostData(HTTPSampler.java:122)
at
org.apache.jmeter.protocol.http.sampler.HTTPSampler.sample(HTTPSampler.java:508)
at
org.apache.jmeter.protocol.http.sampler.HTTPSamplerBase.sample(HTTPSamplerBase.java:965)
at org.apache.jmeter.protocol.http.proxy.Proxy.run(Proxy.java:242)
SO FROM THERE THE USER IS INTERRUPTED TO DO, WHAT HE WANTED.
