[jira] [Created] (HIVE-5085) Hive Metatool errors out if HIVE_OPTS is set

Sushanth Sowmyan created HIVE-5085:
--------------------------------------

             Summary: Hive Metatool errors out if HIVE_OPTS is set
                 Key: HIVE-5085
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-5085
             Project: Hive
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: Clients
            Reporter: Sushanth Sowmyan

If HIVE_OPTS were to be set, then the Hive Metatool fails on parsing the commandline arguments. This can happen, for example, if HIVE_AUX_JARS_PATH were to include the HCatalog jar.

The result, then, is that it tries to execute the following:

{code}
exec $HADOOP jar ${HIVE_LIB}/hive-cli-*.jar $CLASS $HIVE_OPTS "$@"
{code}

which maps to:

{noformat}
exec /usr/lib/hadoop/bin/hadoop jar /usr/lib/hive/lib/hive-cli-0.11.0.2.0.5.0-30.jar org.apache.hadoop.hive.metastore.tools.HiveMetaTool -hiveconf hive.aux.jars.path=file:///usr/lib/hcatalog/share/hcatalog/hcatalog-core.jar -listFSRoot
{noformat}

Then Metatool chokes on seeing the "-hiveconf" parameter.
