[Trinidad] panelPopup users, testers needed

I have created a new SVN branch for a large change to the panelPopup
js code for positioning.

I have tested it with Firefox 2 on linux, IE7 on Windows and IE6 on
wine using the trinidad-demo page.

It may work for the most part in quirks mode, but the code truly only
supports standards mode, as that is what Trinidad supports (at least
from the tr:document point of view)

Those that use the popup, please test the code and reply to this post
with feedback.

Code:
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/myfaces/trinidad/branches/ar_panelPopup_positioning

This is from the 1.2.x branch so it will not work on 1.0.x
applications. If you want to test those, patch your 1.0.x trinidad
source with SVN revision 630473 off of that branch.

I will commit it to the trunks after a 1.x.7 release branch is created
to let this code go through a burn in time (so planned release is
Trinidad 1.x.8).

Thanks,
-Andrew

no plans by me. In fact I do not plan on working on panelPopup for the
forseeable future. Last time I spent time on it, it was not a very fun
experience and I have other projects i am working on right now (I
haven't done any MyFaces work in over a month now). Sorry. Perhaps
someone else has an interest in working with it. Maybe even a trinidad
wrapper on a third party js library with a more robust and tested
popup?

Hello Andrew,

do you know whether there are plans to create a dragable panelPopup? I
think this is a usefull feature, but don't know how to implement this...

Thanks!

hello andrew,

i made a quick test.
there is a new issue. (some weeks ago i filed a general one.) today i added
2 screenshots to show the current problem.
you will find all details at [1].

today i committed TRINIDAD-909 without the recalculation of the blocking
div, because the behavior had changed before i had time to commit the whole
patch.
maybe we can combine your approach with the approach i couldn't commit [2]

the part i'm referring starts after:

(see the provided patch, which works e.g. with 1.x.7)

Due to some problems with trinidad popupDialogs, i made my own javascript
implementation of floatingPopupDialogs, not compatible with trinidad, but
with some nice features, like dark background that fades in and out when the
dialog shows, background that blinks for modal dialogs when the user clicks
on it and full dialog repositioning on scroll and window resize events (for
both IE6 and FF) and an easy callback registration for the dialog close
button

If somebody thinks that this could be useful, please let me know, its not
much but i would like to contribute

Sure. BTW, if you have any design questions that come up about
Trinidad feel free to ask the list as there are many that know
different areas of the code and could probably help with avoiding code
duplication.

Thanks for leeting me contribute to the Project.
I hope I can come with with a basic working demo by next monday.

May I request your help in committing the modifications to the SVN, because
this is my first interaction with a development stream in any open source
project.

Sure, do you want to write it? :)

I won't have time for a very long time for this type of work. I am
trying to free myself up to author a new skin and re-write the
Trinidad demo so we can get Trinidad better looking out of the box.

Great

Yeah, the cancel functionality is not at all flexible or extensible,
but I, once again, do not think that I will have time to work on this
for a long time.

Anyone heard from the author in a long time? (I am pretty sure it is
Danny Robinson)

Hey, Andrew,

Can we ask for more...
Is it possible that in the coming release we can come up with a robust
popup taht has full drag and drop , modal and modeless capabilities ?

I think I can contribute the drag-and-drop feature, if it was not there in
your plan of things...
Panel popup in its present state needs a lot of improvements, one for
example is that we can associate an action attribute to the Cancel
button(X symbol), and may be we can give users the flexibility to have a
cancel icon or remove it , because some activities cannot be cancelled and
so will close the popup only on completion of the activity.

Samba
