About lexicon storing and Front Encoding

Hi Lucene experts!

Lucene is using Front Encoding to store the lexicon, right?

If so, how does Lucene search for a term in the lexicon, seems binary
search is no longer possible? Furthermore, how does Lucene handle
updates to the lexicon, e.g. adding and removing a new term?
