[Google Summer of Code] Wider spectrum of data consumers/producers for Apache Samza

Hi dev@,
My name is Lewis, I'm over on Nutch, Any23, Gora, OODT, Tika, OCW PMC's and
in the Incubator quite a bit.
I'm writing to see if anyone is interested in mentoring the above project
which was registered by a potential student Renato Marroquin.
http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/proposal/review/org/google/gsoc2015/renato2099/5751725713522688
Right now Apache admins for GSoC are trying to tag every proposal with the
corresponding project and following up on proposals which have no mentor
assigned yet.
Is anyone interested in mentoring this project?
If it means anything, Renato is a Committer and PMC member over on Gora and
has participated successfully in two GSoC programs in previous years,
namely building a webservices API for Gora datastores and then extending
the Giraph datastore support using Gora. he has displayed competency to
work well both under supervision and as an individual so I would imagine
that a mentoring position on this project would be pretty lightweight
work...
Thanks, and good luck to anyone who steps forward.
Lewis

P.S. Please reply to me directly at lewis.mcgibbney@gmail.com if you want
to respond, I am unsubscribing from dev@

Sure, my proposal is in here if you want to give it a look

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FxTV5yQNydUccDbp4wY6kc7um7CsFi_leD5W8KDlsTw/edit?usp=sharing

I am checking the code to try to get a better idea of where the extra hooks
for the integration will be. I will write to the mailing list asking for
some advice on this as soon as I have a better understanding. I know I have
to extend from the Samza-core-api and that Kafka and the file system
producer/consumer are good entry points, but there are things such as the
changeLog which is based on Kafka. I mean if the producer/consumer is not a
kafka system, then should the changeLog still use Kafka?
Anyways, I want to review things like that, and I will to the mailing list
and we can discuss on those issues.
Thanks for the interest guys! Looking forward to this :)

Yeah, I don't have any broad concerns. Just curious as to what's
being proposed.

-- Hi Jakob,

This is a little cumbersome.

1. If you want to review the proposal, you have to be a mentor first. I
forward it in another thread.

2. Another way is to ask Renato to post the proposal in a google doc which
we all have the access to.

-- Hi Renato,

Could you also paste the proposal to a google doc which all other
committers can review it ? Currently only the mentors (I think I am the
only one signed the mentor in Samza project so far) are able to see it.

Thanks,

Hi Yang,
You need to send an email to mentors@community.apache.org CC'ing your dev@
list stating your intention to mentor the project.
The email should include your MELANGE username and the project you wish to
mentor.
You should also add your name in the below file

https://svn.apache.org/repos/private/committers/GsocLinkId.txt

Thanks and great news to hear that you may be working together.
