--- Comment #5 from Don DiCroce <dd...@progressive.com> ---
The originator indicated there was an error message but did not provide details
about the message or the text. Request the originator attempt to replicate the
issue and provide the text from the error message.
Also request the originator provide the settings of the Auto Recovery options
that were set at the time of the issue.

Replicating the Report
There were no detailed instructions on how to replicate the bug as the
originator described. The originator did report that the PC executed an auto
re-boot to install updates, which shut down all applications. Neither Open
Office nor Windows Vista provided an opportunity to save any open work prior to
the shut down. I attempted the following:

Steps to reproduce:
a) Open Office version – 4.0.1
b) OS – Windows 7
c) Recovery options = Set Auto Recovery information every 1 minute.
d) Opened/created 4 new documents and entered text in each one.
e) Opened Task Manager and shut down the Open Office application. This
cancelled/shut down all 4 instances of Open Office with the 4 documents that I
created.
f) I then launched Open Office again and received the OpenOffice Document
Recovery window with the 4 documents I was previously editing.
g) I selected Start Recovery and found all four documents were recovered
with the latest changes that I had made.

Follow Up Tests
a) Attempt to reproduce on OO 3.4.0. If the bug is reproducible on 3.4.0
and not on 4.0.1 as I found, it possibly has been fixed in a later version.
b) Since OpenOffice 4.0.1 is the current release version, I would recommend
retesting OO 4.0.1 on a Windows Vista installation. Attempting to reproduce on
the current release version will provide information if the bug is an OS
specific problem.
c) Vary the recovery time interval to verify the auto recover will recover
at various save intervals. I set it to 1 minute to facilitate testing.

Testers Speculation
a) Typically when the Windows OS shuts down and provides an option to save
the files within a certain amount of time. Windows Vista (the OS) may not have
sensed that AOO had edits that weren’t saved and shut down the application
without prompting the user to save files.
