9.0.16 showing missing directory and documentation showing it should exist

Hi.

Since tomcat 9.0.16, the extras directory inside bin, which normally contains
catalina-jmx-remote.jar and catalina-ws.jar is no being published for download.

The last version of tomcat9 with the bin/extras directory available for
download appears to be tomcat 9.0.14.

The documentation still indicates that the extras directory should exist.

Apologies if I have raised this in the wrong location.

Thanks.

Thanks. I'll get that removed for the next release.

I have wondered about this myself and have been using the
catalina-jmx.remote.jar from 9.0.14 until I could investigate further.

I just reviewed the Windows ZIP distribution for Tomcat 9.0.22 and I do not
find catalina-ws.jar or catalina-jmx-remote.jar anywhere in the archive. Is
there some other "core" download I am missing?

I was not asking for support with my comment; I thought I was being helpful by
confirming the artifacts in question were indeed not present in a distribution
archive.

--- Comment #1 from Mark Thomas <ma...@apache.org> ---
The extras were merged into the core download for 9.0.15. It is correct that
there is no extras directory under bin in 9.0.16.

It looks like the README.html file for the download directory was not updated
to remove the reference to bin/extras until 9.0.17. I've edited the README.html
file in the archive to remove the reference to bin/extras in the 9.0.16
download.

Bugzilla is not a support forum. Please use the users mailing list.

Hi Mark,

Apologies, but I found another place where the documentation still makes
reference to bin/extras, which is here :

https://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-9.0-doc/extras.html

I suspect this documentation is probably the source of confusion at moment.

I'll admit I am still a but confused, and will raise a question in the
tomcat-users mailing list...

Thanks.
