PMC Chair

Hi guys,

We've been a TLP for nearly a year now - well done us!

Six months ago I offered to let someone else have a go chairing the
PMC. So, I'm offering again. I'm happy to continue doing it if no
one else has any pressing wish to do it, has a better vision for the
project or whatever.

The work is largely limited to monitoring the lists and supplying
quarterly reports to the board. Although there was quite a bit of fun
and games getting our release out, that's not the chair's specific
responsibility.

Let me know, because we should be able to squeeze all the voting and
stuff in before the next board report (Feb, I think) if we do want to
have a change.

Cheers,

Tom

Agreed on Tom doing a great job. However, it's easy for a project to
get too comfortable with the same person always taking care of a
certain task, even after he or she might grow tired of the burden. By
rotating the position once every year or two we can easily prevent
such a situation.

So unless Tom explicitly prefers to continue as the chairman himself,
I'd warmly recommend anyone who's interested and/or willing to share
the responsibility to take up the offer. The only requirements are
that you need to be a member of the River PMC and pay attention to the
stuff that's going on in the project (and that you don't mind getting
a glimpse of how the ASF board works). The duties are as mentioned by
Tom, and the reward the gratitude of the rest of us (and a nice VP
title to add to your resume).

BR,

Jukka Zitting

I'd like to see you stay on, you're doing a good job & it gives the
project stability.

Peter.
