[Issue 126171] New: Bullets Format problem when underline Text

https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126171

          Issue ID: 126171
        Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Bullets Format problem when underline Text
           Product: Writer
           Version: 4.1.1
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Windows 8
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P5
         Component: formatting
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: gerald.schrempf@gmail.com

Created attachment 84583

a screenshot and sample file of the bullet-underline-bug

sometimes when writing text with several bullets and mark text with the keybord
and then press "CTRL + U" for underlining the line or just text from the line,
it happens sometimes that ALL BULLETS in the whole text document gets also
underlined.

it happens just sometimes, maybe once every 4-8 hours of work.

the underlined bullets cannot be removed by the "UNDO" command or by using the
underline-command again.

the only way to get rid of the underlined bullets is to click to the left of a
single bullet, then left-click and then click on "characters" (i think its
named "characters" in english, because in german it is namned "Zeichen"). There
i have to change the combobox of "underline" to the option "NONE".

this bug also happens if i mark a various text in the line of a bullet and use
the "yellow background button" to make a yellow background to the text.
it happens once a day that the background of ALL BULLETS in the text file is
also changed to the yellow text background and i have to remove it also in the
"characters" menu and then remove the background colour in the register card
"background".

it would be very helpful if you find the bug, thanks!
(i also add a screen shot and a sample file to this issue).

I was not able to replicate this bug, with the information provided by the
original report.
Steps:
1. I wrote some sample text in bullet point list and highlighted it both
using the mouse or using shift+arrow keys.(I tried both methods with the same
results)
2. Then repeatedly pressing ctrl+u to underline some of the text.
I failed to witness the bug reported here. I tried with several times for ~5
minutes (2-3 toggles per second) each time. I'm attaching a gif to briefly
demonstrate the steps above. I suspect that either the subsequent changes since
this original post fixed the problem or that the bug is only replicable in a
very narrow set of conditions that I could not match. This problem, if this bug
still exists, it doesn’t seem to be affecting many people. I could not find any
other bug reports with similar problems and after briefly searching the web I
didn’t see any other mentions of this problem.

I was able to duplicate this behavior with OpenOffice 4.2.0 on Windows 10.

Selecting the area to the left of a bullet list seems to select and highlight
all the bullets in a section of bullets, however it does not highlight bullets
in another section of bullets broken up by a paragraph. When using Ctrl+U or
selecting the underline icon, all bullets in the document, including the ones
not highlighted were then underlined.

This seems to be an odd behavior since it is underlining a section of bullets
that are not being selected. I would expect that only the selected set of
bullets is highlighted and not all bullets across the entire document.

This behavior seemed to also work with italics, bold, strikethrough, shadow,
increase font size, decrease font size, superscript, subscript.

I did notice that when selecting a different bullet type from the bullets
option, the new bullet type was only applied to the current section of selected
bullets and not all bullets. When selecting the bullet type None, the None
bullet type was only applied to the current line and not to all bullets in the
section.

Also unable to replicate bug with same steps on these two configurations

Windows 10 (Version 1507)

Suggest that if you are to replicate this bug you really would need to spend a
lot of time testing as the original reporter says it happens once every 4-8
hours of work. Would need to decide if it would be worth the time to detect
bug.

click cursor to left of the bullet -> press "ctrl+u" (underline) -> now all
bullets in document are underlined. maybe its better to prohibit this
bullet-formatting?

this causes maybe the same problem with yellow-highlighting all bullets
sometimes.

I was able to replicate the described issue under Ubuntu 14.04. But only once,
so I don't change the status of this issue.

Additional information: if the issue occur, the character template “Bullets” is
changed. Look into the provided sample file. Yes “Undo” isn't working for this
effect. The only workaround is to open the template “Bullets” and press
[Standard] on the “Font Effects” tab.
