properties for JDBC conection

Hi all,

I try to use OJB PersistenceBroker API  with Firebird/Interbase . Formerly 
I use JDBC API and when
I need a new connection, I obtain it such way

Properties props = ...
props.put("user",uName);
props.put("password", pwd);

props.put("charSet", "UTF8");

Driver drv = .....
Connection connection = drv.connect(url,props);

So my question is : how i can to put the "charSet" property for JDBC 
connection with OJB?

P.S. I try to put following string into repository.xml but it was no 
effect

<jdbc-connection-descriptor ....
        <attribute attribute-name="charSet" attribute-value="UTF8"/>
</jdbc-connection-descriptor>
