problem installing james on suse 8.2

I have downloaded the binary James-2.1.3 and unpacked in /opt/james-2.1.3.

When I execute run.sh from the bin directory I get following error:
./run.sh line 37: /opt/james-2.1.3/bin/phoenix.sh: Permission denied

When I execute phoenix.sh from the same directory I get:
bash: ./phoenix.sh: Permission denied

I am logged in as root, so I should have all permissions.

What am I doing wrong? What can/must I do to get JAMES installed?

Maybe you don't have rights to bind to port 25.
Did you try "telnet localhost 25"?

Well,

The problem was that phoenix.sh didn't have execution rights. After having
corrected this, I was able to start JAMES. And I started to configure.

After having done so, I restarted JAMES. It didn't give any problems. But
with trying to use the remote manager via telnet I ran in to a new problem.

I tried to telnet to local host port 4555 (the default), but I got
a 'connection refused'.

How can I resolve this? Can you help?

I had a problem on SuSE 8.2 starting james too. I m not sure if the
error message was "Permisson denied", but the problem was that port 25
was busy (in the default installation of SuSE 8.2). Control this
entering the command "lsof -i".

Hi Pieree,

try
chmod a+x phoenix.sh
I hope your logged in user has enough rights to do so.

  chmod +x phoenix.sh

I hate to say RTFM, but if you are going to run a linux box, you've got some
reading to do. You might start with http://linux-newbie.sunsite.dk/. File
permissions are discussed in
http://linux-newbie.sunsite.dk/lnag_basics.html#file_permissions.

Did you check the permissons on phoenix.sh to see if it has +x set?
