[jira] [Commented] (ZOOKEEPER-3603) Zookeeper (3.5.6) not starting on mac

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ZOOKEEPER-3603?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=16966342#comment-16966342 ]

Brian Nixon commented on ZOOKEEPER-3603:
----------------------------------------

I am unable to reproduce the attached error when using apache-zookeeper-3.5.6-bin on my Mac, even when specifying a data directory that needed to be recursively created. Specifying a data directory that my user does not own gives a different error (mkdir: /var/lib/zookeeper: Permission denied) so my first hypothesis doesn't hold.

Can you give some more details?

> I downloaded zookeeper 3.5.6 and was unable to start because the zookeeper_server.pid file was not being created.
> The problem was in the line *ZOO_DATADIR="$(echo -e "${ZOO_DATADIR}" | sed -e 's/^[[:space:]]*//' -e 's/[[:space:]]*$//')"*
>
> After removing -e option from the echo command, it started successfully.
