+Defines an interface that allows a proxy for a resource to express the
+ identity of that resource. Resources include items like services,
+ leases, service registrations, and lease renewal sets. Any resource that
+ is represented by proxies that implement this interface has a unique
+ identity. That identity is expressed by assigning the resource a
+ universally unique identifier. This universally unique identifier will
+ be represented using the <code>Uuid</code> class. This <code>Uuid</code>
+ must be:
+
+ <ul>
+ <li> Sufficient to uniquely identify the resource,
+ <li> associated with the resource for the resource's entire lifetime,
+ <li> never assigned to another resource who's proxies implement
+ <code>ReferentUuid</code>, and
+ <li> returned by the <code>getReferentUuid</code> method of
+ any proxy of the resource, if that proxy implements
+ <code>ReferentUuid</code>.

+ Given two objects, <code>o1</code> and <code>o2</code>, that implement
+ <code>ReferentUuid</code>:

+ <li> if <code>o1.equals(o2)</code> is <code>true</code>,
+ then <code>o1.getReferentUuid</code> and
+ <code>o2.getReferentUuid</code> should return equivalent
+ <code>Uuid</code>s.

+ <code>Uuid</code>s are equal if they have the same 128-bit value.
+ <code>Uuid</code> instances can be created using the static methods

+ <p>As an alternative to an IEEE 802 address (such as if one is not
+ available to the generation algorithm), the <code>node</code> field
+ may also be a 48-bit number for which the most significant bit is
+ set to <code>1</code> and the remaining bits were produced from a
+ cryptographically strong random sequence.

+ <p>If the <code>version</code> field is <code>0x4</code>, then the
+ <code>time_low</code>, <code>time_mid</code>, <code>time_hi</code>,

+<h2><code>Uuid</code> and <code>UuidFactory</code></h2>
+
+<p>Instances of the class <A HREF="../../../net/jini/id/Uuid.html" title="class in net.jini.id"><CODE>Uuid</CODE></A> are universally
+unique identifiers. A <code>Uuid</code> is a 128-bit value. The
+class <A HREF="../../../net/jini/id/UuidFactory.html" title="class in net.jini.id"><CODE>UuidFactory</CODE></A> provides static methods for
+creating <code>Uuid</code> instances with specified values and newly
+generated values.
+
+<p>The design of the <code>Uuid</code> and <code>UuidFactory</code>
+classes is intended to allow the actual class of a <code>Uuid</code>
+instance to be <i>preferred</i> (see <A HREF="../../../net/jini/loader/pref/package-summary.html"><CODE>net.jini.loader.pref</CODE></A>), to
+help preserve that class's codebase annotation when it gets
+unmarshalled, while the <code>Uuid</code> class itself is not
+preferred, so that <code>Uuid</code> can be used in public field,
+method, and constructor declarations of types resolvable by classes
+defined by different class loaders.
+
+<h2><code>ReferentUuid</code> and <code>ReferentUuids</code></h2>
+
+<p>The interface <A HREF="../../../net/jini/id/ReferentUuid.html" title="interface in net.jini.id"><CODE>ReferentUuid</CODE></A> allows a proxy for a
+resource to express the identity of that resource as a
+<code>Uuid</code>. The class <A HREF="../../../net/jini/id/ReferentUuids.html" title="class in net.jini.id"><CODE>ReferentUuids</CODE></A>
+provides a static convenience method for comparing the identities of
+proxies that are instances of <code>ReferentUuid</code>. With a
+uniform interface for accessing the identity of a proxy's resource,
+two proxies can be recognized as being for the same resource even if
+the proxies' implementation classes are not the same version or not
+defined by the same class loader.
