Update to apex.apache.org site?

Wanted to see what the community thinks of re-design off apex.apache.org
site. Do comment on "Is is time to do a re-design".

If we all think it is time for a re-design given that Apex is top level
project, here are some thoughts that IMHO should be taken up.

- Have a powered by Apex page
- Bring our value proposition more clearly
- Quicker/Prominent access to download
- Get Started, examples apps posted

Thks,
Amol

Agreed. We can reduce the clutter in the Meetup list and announcements. The
site can use the enhancements suggested by Amol, but it looks quite good
even now.

I would consider the meetup list a "bug". Should show only a few entries
and no duplicates.

I personally think "announcement" and "upcoming meetups" take too much
space on the home page while features/introduction to apex should have
taken more space.

Thanks Thomas, I added my comments and one of Ram's comment to the jira.

There are a couple of related JIRAs:

https://issues.apache.org/jira/issues/?jql=project%20%3D%20APEXCORE%20AND%20text%20~%20%22web%20site%22%20and%20resolution%20%3D%20Unresolved

And there was a discussion about the landing page here recently.

+1 for redesign.

I think we can also put some though on redesigning of the docs page (
http://apex.apache.org/docs.html)
And maybe also have link to latest downloadable on front page?

To me it seems a little too busy and intimidating to newcomers; I'd prefer
a simpler layout
not quite so minimalistic as the big G but, something like:
http://kafka.apache.org/
or http://geode.apache.org/ (though the 3x3 grid is still too much).
