Getting Involved

I'd like to become more actively involved in Xerces project, from a
development perspective and wanted to solicit some feedback on the best way
to contribute, especially to the upcoming 2.8.0 release. I've read all of
the various "Getting Involved" documents from the XML projects to the
Jakarta projects. I've tried submitting patches for small enhancements and
fixes via the bug tracking (JIRA), but that doesn't seem to work as well
with this group as it does with others, so I thought I'd take a more direct
approach.

Some thoughts I had for possible tasks:

*	I noticed that the majority of test classes are NOT JUnits. Since
there are a couple, I didn't know if this was intentional or just the way
things have evolved, so I thought I could spend some time building out the
current tests as JUnits.
*	Code cleanup and optimization - I'm sure there are a number of
little items that are desired, but no one has had the time to do them. I'd
be willing to spend some time on any small projects like that.

Let me know how I can help, thanks.

I have posted a few patches to JIRA, but haven't heard anything back. Here
are the items, if you're interested.

http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/XERCESJ-1125
http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/XERCESJ-1033

If there are any specific tasks that come to mind, please let know. Any
seemingly small tasks, such as cleanup would be fine. I've scanned over JIRA
in the past, but I have a hard time telling what's valid and invalid. Many
of the open issues seem outdated.

Thanks,
-Nathan

Sorry for the slow reply - we have all been on xmas hols. It would be
great to get you involved. Taking a look at the tests would be a great
way to learn the code base. Some of the tests (such as the xinclude
ones) also need moving out at some point so that xerces-c can use them
as and when it implements things.

Its also certainly worth taking a look at jira and see what people have
put for enhancement requests. If you want a larger project there are
also things like relaxNG to consider.

How would you like to start?

Cheers,

Gareth
