[jira] [Commented] (CALCITE-1319) Support bind variables in DDL

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CALCITE-1319?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=15382468#comment-15382468 ]

Julian Hyde commented on CALCITE-1319:
--------------------------------------

We should disable bind variables in all DDL statements by default, and enable for particular kinds.
* If we allow bind variables in CREATE VIEW they should take effect when the view is created, not when it is used.
* They would make sense in CREATE TABLE AS SELECT, as long as we implement them properly.

> Phoenix allows "CREATE TABLE" statement to have bind variables in "SPLIT" clause, specifying the region split keys. These bind variables are of fixed types (VARCHAR).
