Corrupt Global Variables

Hi,
 I am experiencing a problem where the value of some global variables in my
stylesheet seem to be modified after they have been referenced once. The
value is correct the first time but subsequent references seem to return
other random values from the source tree. Is this a known bug? 

Any help greatly appreciated.
