In this [discussion|https://lists.apache.org/x/thread.html/rf540860ae335b57c4829fbe60d8b4755b920ee99539c3a03f990f88b@%3Cdev.avro.apache.org%3E], I'm guessing that the type "promotion" between bytes and string is just the binary UTF-8 data, but the spec doesn't elaborate on what promotion [actually means|https://avro.apache.org/docs/current/spec.html#Schema+Resolution].  This should be clarified and check that the different language SDKs have the same interpretation.
