[jira] Resolved: (TAPESTRY-1510) DataSqueezer in T5

Howard M. Lewis Ship resolved TAPESTRY-1510.
--------------------------------------------

    Resolution: Won't Fix
      Assignee: Howard M. Lewis Ship

Getting away from DataSqueezer is very important, it caused a lot of grief (even if it solved a number of problems). If you want to have an application-specific solution for doing some of these things, then have fun. The T5 passivate/activate logic puts that directly under your control.

What we're seeing here is a shift of philosophy, from Tapestry as "nanny" (providing every possible function your application will need) to Tapestry as "enabler' (doing what it does, letting your code do the rest).

The "nanny" model never worked because every application has its own specific functions that can't be expressed in a generic way. You then end up with bugs about "S" prefixes in hidden fields, ugly URLs, wierd DataSqueezer errors, etc.
