[jira] [Commented] (WHIMSY-389) unsubscribe feature does not work for all registered emails

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/WHIMSY-389?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17628562#comment-17628562 ]

Ken Coar commented on WHIMSY-389:
---------------------------------

@Sebb It's not an urgent issue, I agree — but it *is* a bug.  'General expectation and usage' is not, IMHO, a valid excuse for not doing the right thing.  And following the RFC is the right thing.  And (also IMHO) it behooves the Apache Software Foundation to lead when it comes to following standards.  That it's been a standard for decades only underlines the importance of doing so.

Haven't you ever been annoyed by sites that have limited and very particular expected formats for telephone numbers they'll accept?  Or those that think [sebb+somesite@apache.org|mailto:sebb+somesite@apache.org] is invalid despite that syntax *also* having been defined as valid and standard for years?

Those are the result of coding by ignorant or lazy developers (or possibly forced upon them by bad decisions made by ignorant or lazy database designers).  Let's not be like that.

> When trying to unsubscribe from a list, either the email pulldown does not allow selection of any addresses or else on those rare occasions when you can select an address, it errors out with:
>
> h2. Invalid Input
> Both email and list to subscribe to are required!
