You'd also need to document it in the NOTICE as the copyright is not
Apache, and in the LICENSE (I think), ie) it's AL 2.0 is not the same
instance as our AL 2.0.

For a small piece of work, it ends up not being worth the effort.

I've always wondered this:

What is the policy on copying code from an external non-Apache ASF-licensed
project? For example, if someone wanted to take a class from Spring and plop
it in an Apache project. Is simply being from ASF-licensed code enough?

True. /me wonders why we didn't realize that problem during the
discussion :)

For now I think this was just a discussion. We would need to see if
the amount of code would be really worth the trouble.

...but checking with legal discuss would be definitely worthwhile.

It would still be code that's not covered by a CLA, so different from
most of the code at the ASF.

I'm not sure how frowned on that would be - probably quite a bit. If
we were copying the code in as a separate module to compress, then
that might be happier. I suggest we talk with legal-discuss to find
out how we should deal with it if we do decide to go ahead with the
idea.

Sorry, that was not clear indeed.

I think consensus from the discussion was that

o the TrueZip API is not really nice
o that the there is no real community behind it

So the idea was to *copy* code from it to help "compression" out in
areas where it needs help.
As it is ASL2.0 it should be no problem though.

Hey Torsten,

Feedback from the board report; what did you mean by "sponsoring" below?

New Incubator project?
