date range search

does solr support date range searching?  i've tried all the examples on
the lucene site as well as using the solr response format and a few
others that seemed nifty but so far I always get query parsing errors.
i know i can easily convert the dates to ints and do ranges that way but
all the documentation seemed to imply it was possibly to do range
searches on real dates, it just didn't give an example that i could see.

Good catch will ... Solr uses it's own DateField FieldType and while the
documentation on it makes it very clear what the format should be, there
wasn't anything clarifying to people use to using the Lucene QueryParse
(or who read the Lucene QueryParser docs about dates) that you needed to
use the same format when querying.

I've updated the SolrQuerySyntax wiki with some notes on this, if you have
any ideas for improving the documentation please don't hesitate to make
more changes...
