Using LibO 3.5.6 (as well as MS Excel), when clicking the arrow in a column
that has filtering enabled, all values in that column appear in a list with
check boxes in the column data, permitting multiple selection.
This possibility doesn't exist with AOO 3.4.1.

Not a bug. Complex criteria in AOO are set by choosing "standard filter".
