[users@httpd] Segmentation fault on Redhat 6.2 running Apache Webserver

hi,

I am running apache webserver on redhat 6.2 with dual cpu PIII 500 with 1 gb
ram and 1gb of swap.
The webserver serves static html, and PHP. The webserver was running fine but
today it started giving out of memory errors. At bash for every command i
ran it gave me segmentation fault. the cause for this was that it didnt have
any free ram or swap space available. The swap space is continuously full
with only 1 mb free swap space left if any. Which process is using the swap?
This process which is using this can be the httpd processes only ... but if
the processes are sleeping why doesnt the memory get released ... The load
average is also pretty high reaching 75 too at times. Please advise .. what
may be causing the memory lock up?

"Top" gave the following results ... sorted on resident memory usage...
