ever get an answer to your question?

Not yet, but I have a sneaky suspiscion that I should use the CVS version. I
was having problems with the tarball for mod_webapp so I got it from the CVS
tree and it compiled fine. Maybe the "release" versions (actually, I think I
downloaded c2rc0) weren't up to par. You could possibly give that a try.
