difference between sling & micro sling.
Hi ,
What is the difference between sling and microsling. Is microsling a scaled
down version of sling ?.
regards ,
Janandith.

Yes, and we should find a way of making this stuff more OSGi compliant,
which means that Sling is "just" a set of bundles that can be deployed
in any OSGi container. (We have SLING-414 for this).

Not really - microsling was a standalone experiment in simplfying
Sling, and the microsling ideas have been integrated in various Sling
components (resource and script resolution, etc.).
If you come across references to microsling, chances are the basic
ideas are implemented somewhere in Sling now, but better ask or lookup
details in the code and tests.

I never looked at it this way but it makes sense - though the
launchpad is an integral part of the Sling project, it is mostly an
assembly of Sling components, for demo and testing purposes.
There is some specific code in launchpad/base that is usually needed
to bootstrap Sling applications - that could be considered an integral
part of the framework.

So does this mean if i come across any reference to microsling i can
consider it as part of the launchpad and isolate it from other parts of
sling ?.
Another thing to clarify
is
Sling framework = (all code in Sling directory) minus ( site + parent
+ maven + launchpad directories)

Exactly - from the user's point of view what was microsling has been
integrated in the Sling Launchpad (the modules under launchpad/ in the
source code).

In the current build these have been merged together to form the
server api and client libraries that exist today, so the term micro
sling is defunct.

Janandith,
microsling used to be a scaled-down version of Sling, but it is deprecated
now. There is only Sling now.
