As far as I know, the Apache HTTP Server does not make any direct use of gd.

Most likely you are having a problem with php, in which case you should start by
asking for help on a php mailing list, and report a bug to the php bug database
if that doesn't help.

If this isn't a php problem, feel free to discuss the issue in a user support
forum like:
http://httpd.apache.org/lists.html#http-users
