[Spindle 3.0.19] Unpredictable behaviour in html spec editor?

Hi,

Before I describe the strange behaviiour I'm encountering using the html
spec editor I would like to remark that I'm using Eclipse 3.0M4.

Whilst trying to use the html spec editor I've already noticed the
following three things:
- tabs do not do their work (closing and opening makes them work again)
- Typing of normal text goes backward (which is funny except for the
fact that is probably shouldn't). Closing and opening seems to do the trick.
- Systax coloring is totally unpredictable. all colors are mixed in
normal line.

Error when trying to open an .application file (even after Eclipse restart):
Cannot open default editor on xyz.application. Editor could not be
initialized

Same error in another form:
    Editor could not be initialized

These error also appear whilst tying to open .page & or .jwc files.

Q: Has anybody encountered something similar in 3.0M4 or is my whole
setup just stuffed (for whatever reason)?

For now I'm falling back on 2.1.2

Cheers,
Fermin DCG

This is true. But I figure I have about 7 days left to devote to Spindle on
company time. Then it'll be back to the grind.

I aim to please to a point. Until I went on this brief foray into Eclipse
3.0 I didn't realize the true administrative burdon one encounters this time
when trying to fix an M4 bug while still staying 2.1.x compatible.
My original statement stands.

Although some good came of it. Syntax stuff is fixed (next release)

Geoff

Thx, (also to Tom)

At least I know its not because I missed a corner somewhere.

I couldn't agree more. Its also what you said at the start of the
current Spindle run: "its an Eclipse 2.x version"

Fully understood. Happy to go back to 2.1.2 (I'll keep on trying on M4
as well)

The error with opening spec files will be fixed in the next release.

The syntax highlighting problem is another story. I debugged through the
code that updates the document partitioning (the basis for coloring) and it
seems that M4 either has a bug in it or there's been a fundamental change in
the way Eclipse handles documents. It took me four hours to get this far and
this problem definitely falls into the "I don't want to go there until
Eclipse 3.0 goes final" category.

I'm going to see if I can find out enough info to log a bug with the Eclipse
folks. Until I hear back there's nothing I can do about it.

This is most likely an Eclipse thing, as their XML editor does this as
well, as do a few other plug-ins I have installed.
