Java DB now available

Good news for Apache Derby - another Big Company has gotten behind Derby
and is providing support for it. Sun's Java DB is now officially
available for download at

   http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=44244f49

Java DB's "home" can be found at

   http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javadb

Also, the article talking about how to use Java DB in the desktop got
top billing at http://java.sun.com

   http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2SE/Desktop/javadb/

Disclaimer: if you hadn't noticed by my email address and my enthusiasm
for Java DB, I work for Sun :)

The main added value is support. At this point we don't do anything but
ship a stable release of Derby (this current download is a distribution
of 10.1.1).

Part of the charter of Java DB is to not "fork" from Apache Derby. At
some point Sun may add value on top of Derby (like Cloudscape does with
its installer and other things) but we wouldn't ship our own "special"
version of the bits that come out of Apache.
