slow update patch in 1.4 ?

Hi,

We are currently suffering from very slow updates. We have a 10+GB repo with
an huge amount of files and an update can easily take 20mins. I've seen
posting on 'users' about fast svn update patch in 1.4 and was wondering what
this patch entales ? For us the update seems to spend long amount of time
accessing the disc with no network traffic. Does the update checksum every
file? even if the file date and modified flags haven't changed ?

thanks
rich

That's the current intention, yes. -- justin

If I understand correctly serf should have a release sometime soon,
probably after OSCON next week...

Related to that - I notice the serf repository
(http://svn.webdav.org/repos/projects/serf/trunk) hasn't been updated
at all since April, except one very small update today. Does that
indicate that it's ready for a real release?

I wonder if switching to ra_serf from ra_dav might help with that.

ra_serf is in the 1.4 RCs and in trunk. More info here:

http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn/trunk/subversion/libsvn_ra_serf/README

If you do try it, I'd be curious to know if it helps at all. Thanks! -- justin

One of our teams did have all their game assets (Maya models, textures,
etc) in a Subversion repository, but they recently removed them from the
repository and went back to having them all on a network drive due to
the extremely long update times. Aside from that, Subversion has been
operating very well for us. A faster update could be all that is
required to get them to put their data back into source control.
