Translation segfaults ( blocker in rc4 ? )
Hi
Since 1.2.3 strange segfaults appears on some systems with pt_BR translation,
and rc4 bring this for some people with fr-* and de_DE.UTF-8.
Original problem in pt_BR was an invalid translation introducing a non
existent c-format char on translated string, the patch was trivial:

But, since rc1 to rc4 start to happens again, and probably situation is the
same, but now i'm unable to find the gaps..
Easy way to test:
- Set system for one translated language, i suggest de_DE.UTF-8
- Checkout this URL: svn co https://nanardon.zarb.org/svn/rpm2sql
If you got segfualt, repeat test with
LANG=C LC_MESSAGES=C svn co https://nanardon.zarb.org/svn/rpm2sql
So, any hint to help ?
Best regards

DSO segfaults Was( Re: Translation segfaults ( blocker in rc4 ? ) )
Posted by Helio Chissini de Castro <he...@mandriva.com>.
Hi
I just discovered that what triggers the problem here is enabling dso.
I don't know know where's to find, but evrything works fine now without dso
enabled, in all languages.
After holidays, i will ask for Apache Mandriva maintainer to work with me and
see if we can find a reason for this strange problem.
Thanks for everyone which helped until now :-)

What was the call stack when you hit this point? What do you mean by
saying that "*pool brings a ` character"?

Got it..
First, i assured that have clean .mo.
The _(x) teste wast great, all fails come in this specific string:
#: libsvn_subr/io.c:2221
#: libsvn_subr/io.c:2245
#: libsvn_subr/io.c:2258
#, c-format
msgid "Can't read file '%s'"
msgstr "Kann Datei '%s' nicht lesen"
Is interesting that is same kind of string which i had problem on old version
( Garret, i tested 1.2.1 today and happens too. I started to take care of
subversion package just after 1.2.3 rc releases ), but difference now is that
old one had two string, with and without arguments, and now we have just with
arguments.
after running some gdb, we have a winner:
subversion/libsvn_subr/io.c:2242
svn_error_t *
svn_io_file_read (apr_file_t *file, void *buf,
apr_size_t *nbytes, apr_pool_t *pool)
More debug steps show me that *pool brings a ` character:
Can't read file '` '
This is exaclty what are happening. I guess need to dig who are sending
garbage to translation..

I've been trying to reproduce this with de.mo and latest 1.3 sources. But
without success.
Just to make sure, whe testing an uninstalled build, svn picks up
translations in the installed location. Are you sure you don't have old
.mo files lying around?
If this is directly related to a bad translation, maybe you could
intercept the gettext call to get at the last message translated? You
could add something to svn_private_config.h. (I could help with this if
you want to.)

If it happens in 1.2.3 does it not happen in earlier versions? It
seems odd that you get the problem in 1.2.3 with pt_BR, since there's
no change between 1.2.1 and 1.2.3 for that file...

Problem appears since 1.2.3. My current bt was 1.3.0-rc4.
Just on arch i386, not x86_64. I recently turned my work station to x86_64,
and didn't detected the problem until a bug report comes on our bugzilla.
In 1.2.3 happens at least with pt_BR UTF-8 lang.
Now i was able to detect problem with pt_BR, fr_FR and de_DE in UTF-8. Maybe
other langs suffer same problem, i will test tomorrow at work

Could you please be a bit more specific about the problem? In which
version of Subversion does it work, and in which does it not? Which
locales cause the problem to occur? You say here that you suggest
de_DE.UTF-8, but is it only that one that makes it happen, or will it
work for others (other than C) as well?
