Installation help

Hi,

Built the project as instructed. Created sample application.

However, did not receive the expected results.

1. Accessing localhost:8080 returns a 404. I suspect this has something to
do with my web.xml, because catalina logs show

2001-05-12 18:44:07 Internal Error: File /WEB-INF/web.xml not found, even
though it sure is there, since the sample app deploys fine.

2. Upon accessing the sample app through the browser, I did not receive a
log-in page, but jumped straight in to the Data Manager.

3. Insert Entry link works, but entering data into it returns an Error page.
I did configure the JDBC connections (MySQL).

4. Clicking on links within the "Flux" category pops up a log-in page. I
enter "turbine" and "turbine" but an Error page pops up.

5. The links in the "Services" category don't work. Clicking on them brings
an empty page. Same for the rest of the links.

By the way, can I download the Source files and Javadoc API from anywhere or
does it have to CVS?

Thanks!

Jason,

Thanks for the prompt response.

Sorry about that. Yep, I am using tdk-1.1a13.

My newapp.props file does have this line. Should I edit it or leave it? I
generated the sample app with "newapp {appname}". This is correct right?

Where can I download the Java sources and API for Turbine btw?

Thanks John. Will download the latest (2.1b1) and have another go at it. I
can't wait!

I am not sure why you would be looking for constraints.dtd, but will
assume it is something related to a difference in tdk and latest turbine
code. You will need to be able to locate database.dtd and the way to do
that is to make sure it is located in your classpath (outside a jar).

The other simple way to avoid this is to remove the doctype xml info at
the top of project-schema.xml and/or intake.xml, but of course then you
lose the validation which can point out some syntax errors.

Huh? Why are you doing this?

Again, this is an assumption, but I take it you are using Linux and
JDK 1.3, yes. There is a problem on Linux with getting the DTD. There
is a fix in Scarab for this I believe that I will try to incorporate
into the TDK.

Again, this is wrong. I don't know where you're getting this setup
information.

Syntax is correct, database is wrong.

I would just wait until tomorrow. The tdk-2.1b1 will be released and
has been simplified to try and avoid some of the problems you're
having. You're whole problem started with generating the wrong
application.
You can't generate the wrong application with the new version of
the TDK. If you're using MySQL and Linux than you have the most tested
setup and the TDK works well. You just started off on the wrong foot,
and that's because it is possible to generate the wrong app with 1.1a13.

It appears I've problem Building because I'm behind a firewall. I've tried
modifying build-project.xml to include proxySet, proxyHost and proxyPort to
no avail.

Ant attempts to connect to java.apache.org for constraints.dtd. The odd
thing is that I've got it locally. Is there anyway for me to fix this?

Also, seem to have a problem connecting to MySql database for some reason
even though my other applications run fine.

My config is databaseUrl = jdbc:mysql://192.168.1.208/Turbine

Turbine is the name of the database I've created on MySql. Is the syntax
correct?

Thanks...

In the tdk-1.1a13 (which i am assuming you are using, please be
as specific as possible) there are two app type.

I you used the default "simple" mode. Your newapp.props
file should have the following line:

turbine.app.type = peer

Then generate the app and follow the instructions. All your errors
are the result of generating the simple app and trying to use
the peer app features. This confusion has been removed in the
next version of the TDK as the peer app is the default.
