Thanks for handling this release. Checked hashes and signature of the
tarball and ran tests. Seeing the same failure as Enrico but I agree it
doesn't seem worth aborting the release over.

Re: Release apache-calcite-1.15.0 (release candidate 0)

Posted by Julian Hyde <jh...@apache.org>.
Jesus has discovered
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CALCITE-2074. I think it is a
show-stopper, and I will cancel the vote.

I propose that we try to do an RC1 Monday or Tuesday. We should also
include https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CALCITE-1808 (I missed
that one for RC 0) and investigate
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CALCITE-2071.

If you are in the process of validating this release candidate, please
carry on with your tests. There is more chance that any issue you
discover will be fixed if you raise it today rather than during the RC
1 vote next week.

Ok, thanks for checking. Agree that it is minor issue.

+1 on the release candidate.

Re: Release apache-calcite-1.15.0 (release candidate 0)

Posted by Julian Hyde <jh...@apache.org>.
I believe the scott.tmp directory is created by hsqldb for an
in-memory "scott" database. Usually it disappears when the "test"
target finishes, but this time there was a crash, so the directory was
left around. The should not be there. It is empty, so I consider it a
minor cosmetic problem, but we should change our release process so
that it is not there next time.

Re: Release apache-calcite-1.15.0 (release candidate 0)

Posted by Aman Sinha <am...@apache.org>.
Downloaded the source tar file on my Linux VM and untarred. I see an empty
extraneous directory 'scott.tmp' in the source.
It wasn't present in the prior release. Is this expected ?

drwxr-xr-x jhyde/jhyde 0 2017-01-20 18:22 apache-calcite-1.15.0-src/
*scott*.tmp/

Other than the source built and unit tests ran fine. I will wait for the
above clarification before casting the vote.

Sure! Thank you. Calcite is great!

I will do as soon as the next release of HerdDB will be released.
We can effectively bundle Calcite only after 1.15 release on Maven Central.

I will be happy to share thoughts about primary and secondary indexes, how
we are leveraging them now in HerdDB and how we would like to use the
planner for them. It will be a long journey !

Thanks for testing the release. It’s interesting to hear that you are using Calcite in HerdDB. You’re welcome to include the project in https://calcite.apache.org/docs/powered_by.html <https://calcite.apache.org/docs/powered_by.html>; send a pull request for a paragraph of text, and indicate an icon to use on the diagram.

I’ve logged https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CALCITE-2070 <https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CALCITE-2070>; I don’t consider it a show-stopper.

+1 (non binding)
- run tests from source package on my laptop (Linux Fedora)
- run tests for my project (https://github.com/diennea/herddb) which
integrates Calcite as SQL Planner

only one test failed in "calcite plus", but I think this is normal as the
source package is not bound to GIT

Failed tests:
  OsAdapterTest.testGitCommitsTop:177
Expected: "author=Julian Hyde <ju...@gmail.com>"
     but: was ""
Tests in error:
OsAdapterTest.testFiles:110 » Runtime exception while executing [select
