JMX support in log4j 1.2

I posted a question on this back in December that was probably confusing.
So, I'll try again with a more direct one.

For the Java Management Extensions (JMX) support in log4j 1.2, what is not
ready? The history states that this is not production ready. Are there
specific issues or is it simply not well-tested with the various third-party
JMX tools?
