Java 8 status with Storm 0.9.5

How safe is it to use Java 8 with Storm 0.9.5?

We've been using Storm 0.9.5 on JRE 8 for a few months without issue.
Last night I sent a long expository response on how you can figure out the
targeted version for Storm's class files.
