backing up .ods files

Dear Apache

I run your Calc program as a data base and it has given me good service for what I need. Compared to the complexity of computing I am low on the list of competence but I get by. My question is regarding backing up to USB stick.

For many back ups it has always produced an .ods file which is the format being used, however it now produces .pdf files, despite not being specified. If it is necessary to recover the file does it make an .ods file, which is better from my point of view or .pdf.

Is this behaviour a fault or, more possibly am I doing some thing wrong .

Your assistance would be appreciated.

Kind regards

David Bath

Oh, one last thing (I hope): COULD it be that the confirmation mail
that you got when unsubscribing actually ended up in your spam box?
Take a look there, and if you find it, follow its instructions.

I also think that when you unsubscribe, you will get an email letting
you confirm that you want to subscribe. If so, follow the instructions
in it.

If nothing works, it seems like you can write a message to
”users-owner@openoffice.apache.org” and writing about your problem
there.

That was at least the information I got when emailing
”users-help@openoffice.apache.org”.

I'm not sure if anyone can do that, maybe. Exactly what did you do
when you tried to unsubscribe? Did you follow the instructions at the
end of every email from this list?
”To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscribe@openoffice.apache.org”
If you did, are you sure you sent it from exactly the same address as
the one that is subscribed? Otherwise it will not work, since it then
tried to unsubscribe someone that is not subscribed, which will fail
every time, of course.

Bill,

Did you read the private email I sent to you earlier today from my
bmcs@apache.org address? If not, please read it in detail and follow the
instructions I gave you.

It was clearly stated there that the email address
worryless@thesuepkes.com does _NOT_ appear on today's list of 568 list
subscribers. Either:

1. You are subscribed and receiving the list posts via a different email
address.
This you can easily resolve by following the detailed instructions in my
private email.

2. You have, or someone impersonating you has, set up some form of
redirection to worryless@thesuepkes.com
There list moderators can do nothing to resolve this issue for you. If
you have not set up any redirection, get some knowledgeable person check
the email headers and it _might_ be possible to trace the origin.

It is unclear what you believe will be achieved by "sending all emails
from openoffice to spam", other than filling up some spam location,

Dave

When you unsubscribe, you will get an email letting you confirm that you want to subscribe. Follow the instructions in it.

You won't be unsubscribed until you do so. This is the same as the process you went through to subscribe to this mailing list, and was listed in the email you received after you subscribed.

If you haven't seen the confirmation email check your spam folder.

Jim,

Returning my reply to the list, in case anyone else misunderstood my
previous appeal.

What kind of indicator do you want from the moderators? Do we want more
useless posts (eg. Dealt with off-list by moderator) to clutter up the
list archives?

If all those <Q>"users with some skills and knowledge"</Q> ignore those
posts and assume the moderators will deal with them (which we do in
almost every case), they could spend more time answering "real" support
questions. This minimizes thread hijacking, <Q>"the whining
bullshit"</Q> and repeated unsubscribe advice.

Do you have an alternative suggestion?

Regards
Dave

Folks, can I appeal to you all to please ignore these "unsubscribe me"
messages and leave it to the moderators to handle them off-list,

Undoubtedly done with the best of intentions, those replies only serve
to make any thread hijacking worse. Yes, I am contributing to the
problem by posting to this thread, but in this case the damage has
already been done.

Most of these "unsubscribe me, or else..." posts come from people who
have little or no knowledge of what a mailing is, let alone
understanding the concept of threads. How they manage to get themselves
subscribed in the first place is a constant source of amazement.

Thanks & Regards

I doubt that Apache OpenOffice can recover the original ods, with
macros and everything, from a pdf.

Hard to tell since you didn't mention anything about exactly what you do.
Where do you click, what happens, what did you expect to happen, and so on?
