Extracting the release portion of the maven version

Consider a maven version of:

1.0-SNAPSHOT

Does anyone know of a plugin or easy way to get the release portion of the version? Ie: just the 1.0 part?

regex is your only man if you are dealing with the Avaya version
number format.... so glad I don't have to do that any more!

I stand corrected. The released-version goal does not seem to work with an incrementalVersion number. But Jim's recommendation works, as long as you know you will always have an incremental version.

BTW. It appears you can use the released-version goal.

http://mojo.codehaus.org/build-helper-maven-plugin/released-version-mojo.html

release-version.version

I think it handles the cases where you have or don't have an incremental version.

RE: Extracting the release portion of the maven version

Posted by Jim McCaskey <ji...@pervasive.com>.
The problem with the parse-version mojo is that it does not handle a blank incremental version very well. It makes some assumptions about what will be where that isn't necessarily right. So, if you have a version number like 1.0-SNAPSHOT, and you try to rebuild that with this:

${parsedVersion.majorVersion}.${parsedVersion.minorVersion}.${parsedVersion.incrementalVersion}

You don't really get what you want. But since we always have major.minor.incremental, we can get away with using things like the above. If you know you will only ever have major.minor, then you can build your version back up the way you want.

I think your regex mojo solution is better, FWIW. :)

You could piece it together using this maybe:

We've done that, but we have very rigid control over the version numbers.
