Mark,

I've applied your patch in repo revision 379766, with a couple of tweaks,
 - the readme for the snapshot is different to the readme in classlib's root, I've put it into make/resources/README-snapshot.txt (though it is renamed upon addition to the archive),
 - I've excluded the VME default dir, rather than failing the task.

Please check that the application of this patch is as you expected.
