derby.log also has this message before the exceptions:
Derby could not obtain the locks needed to release the unused, preallocated values for the sequence 'SYS'.'U6b91c056X0146X61a1Xca44Xffffe2ac3d7c'. As a result, unexpected gaps may appear in this sequence.
