Apache Configuration Program
This is my first posting to this forum, and I have several questions:
1. Are any plans in the work to drop the .conf files for Apache for NT
and go with a registry based solution?
2. Does anyone have a decent set of lex/yacc grammer files for the
config file format?
(I've made my own, but would prefer something athoritative)
3. Are there any Windows based configuration programs so far? all I've
seen in web/cgi based solutions.
4. Could someone look at http://ractarion.mit.edu/racter/ac/ and tell
me if it looks viable.
(dont wanna waste my time on something already done. :)
Thanks

Well....The registry question Im not sure of . I like the conf files
myself...As far as the apache configuration program for NT goes...A while back
I wrote an Ap that starts Apache hidden and lives down in the task tray as well
as shows apache's status (running / not running) It was a kludge to get around
the dos box and the message window when you just tried to kill it....It had a
problem I never bothered to solve and that was that once a cgi was run it could
not kill Apache . ( this is because I was killing against a text name and once
perl or tcl is run through it apache assumes the text process name under Win32)
Anyway if you want it I may be able to dig it up. It was called ApCon (original
name eh)

Yet Another Apache Configuration Program
Posted by jb...@ix.netcom.com.
Hi,
just to tell you, i am currently writing another configuration program
for Apache.
You can see its current state at http://www.mygale.org/~jbn/ac.html . I
know similar programs
are being worked on, but diversity is a good thing. In addition, i'm
doing this for my own
education. Any comments, suggestions are welcome. I'll provide the
source to anyone who wants it.
It's not really functionnal yet (parsing works, but the display is not
yet (i think i may have found
a bug in Gtk)). Just to let you know, it's written in C, with the Gtk
toolkit, and an embedded Perl
interpreter (the parsing is done with a Perl script).

This is more a question for the main apache development group -- but I
really doubt it. What I can tell you is that you can use the mod_*
architecture to do this. For example, mod_perl allows setting all
configuration variable from perl scripts.

Likewise - I started to but they are now out-of-date. Apache 1.3 has a
switch to allow syntax checking without running the server itself.
>From the 1.3 features list:
-S command line option for debugging vhost setup
If Apache is invoked with the -S command line option it will dump out
information regarding
how it parsed the VirtualHost sections. This is useful for folks
trying to debug their virtual
host configuration.

Actually there are a few in C or Tcl/Tk that will run on Windows - take
a look here for all I've found so far.

Interesting, how functional is it, or just screen shots ?? If it could
configure a unix/linux based server as well as just do registry type
stuff, it would be REAL interesting.
Be looking to see how you progress - when you are ready to let the world
see more, we can add it to the gui.apache.org web pages.
Later ...
